STRANGER LETTERS
Architectural lettering is a form of lettering used by interior designers and architects. It is lettering that requires you to make sure each and every letter touches both the bottom and top guide lines, as well as for each "A", or any letter, to look exactly the same. Additionally, it requires each first letter to also touch the vertical guide line, as well as the bottom and top lines. This type of lettering can be very difficult to master, but once you do, you can add your own flare to your letters and numbers.

NAME IT
When asked to create a 3D object that represents me, I had so many ideas. I immediately started sketching, writing down traits, things I like, researching what different colors represent, etc. I was so excited about this project. Additionally, I thought of the elements and principles of design and how they fit together to represent me. I will admit, I had to modify my sketches in order to create something 3D, as I am better at drawing than creating sculptures of sorts.
For this assignment, I created a gold heart; wrapped in twisted, purple clay; with purple, pink, and green flowers in the center. The elements of design I used were line, shape, texture, and color. The lines in my NameIt are curved, which creates a sense of movement. Further, I chose curved lines that never end because I am always wanting to grow as a person and am always ready to learn. Like a cycle, there is not end. In addition, I chose a heart as my shape, because I am loving and compassionate (I also love love). The texture in my NameIt is both visual and tactile. Visually, you can see the ridges the purple clay makes. In contrast, the physical touch of the clay is very smooth. This contrast can represent me, whereas I may seem rough around the edges, but I and very inviting. For color, I chose gold, purple, pink, and green. Gold represents courage and passion. Purple represents calmness, creativity, and royalty. Pink represents love and is a strong color associated with femininity. Green represents new beginnings, abundance, and nature.
Furthermore, the principles of design I used included balance, rhythm, emphasis, and unity. The balance in my 3D design is very symmetrical because I like to have structure and I am very traditional. The rhythm is shown through the object by the repetition of the heart shape included in the flowers and the overall design. Additionally, I chose to emphasize the three connected leaves in the center for several reasons. The first reason was because I love nature and I really wanted that to be represented in this project. The second reason is that the shape the leaves form together is similar to a Celtic symbol, which is called the Triquetra. I wanted this in my NameIt because my family is Irish and I love the culture. Finally, I chose to emphasize the leaves because the three leaves connected symbolize the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Everything that I chose to create this project, is unified and represents me.

NAME IT DRAWINGS
To further display our "Name-Its", we were tasked to draw additional sketches of our objects from different angles. I drew my Name-It from the top view, the bottom view, and the side view.

NAME IT VALUE STUDY
For my name-it value study, I redrew my name-it and used different types of shading and different views. This value study was to demonstrate that we knew how to create value with lines. The darkest part of my name-it is the outside and the lightest is the middle. I did not have that many different values because my name-it did not have too many; nor did I have four different views as asked because my name-it did not really allow for that. Further, here is my name-it value study where I used hatching, cross-hatching and contour lines to create value.

CONTOUR DRAWING 1st PLACE
A contour line drawing is a drawing of the outline of an object(s). We had to sketch six drawings in 4"x 4" boxes, using three different contour line drawings. For my sketches, I used blind, modified blind, and cross contour line drawings.

CONTOUR LINE DRAWING 2nd PLACE
These are a few of the in class contour line drawings that I did. The first set of drawings are of a box with flaps. I drew this box first without looking at it, which is the blind drawing. The second time I drew the box, I did a modified blind contour drawing. This is where I mostly drew the box without looking at it, but I would look occasionally to place my pencil in the correct area. For this box, I sketched it twice with the modified blind method. The last way I drew the box was by doing a cross-contour line drawing with an outline. This sketch was where I looked at the object and the paper, so that I could realistically draw the object. I used the cross-contour method to show the light and the dark areas on the box.
Additionally, for my second place contour drawing I drew a Chick-fil-a cup and I drew a table located in the lobby of the Interdisciplinary Building. For both of these objects, I used the same methods as I did for the box drawings.
VIEW FINDER
To help us learn how to draw properly and make sure we draw the objects proportionately, we created viewfinders. A viewfinder is a device that helps artists find the perfect view to draw or take a picture of. We used our viewfinders to create our in situ drawings.
To create the viewfinder, I got a thick piece of paper and measured the size I wanted the square to be, which was 3 x 3. I them took string to divide up the square into four sections. This helps artists to just focus on one square at a time rather than the entire image.

IN SITU SECOND PLACE DRAWING
For this drawing. we sat in the lobby of the Interdisciplinary Building and sketched from different angles in the building. My first attempt was of a brick wall, a trash can, and a hallway. This drawing I never finished because the proportions were off and then people were in the way. Therefore, I chose a new part of the building to draw. I sat right in front of a big window, and drew what I saw when I was looking out of it. I used my viewfinder to help me figure out what I wanted to draw, and where each object goes in proportion to each other. My viewfinder was 3 x 3, therefore the box I created for my drawing was 9 x 9. I did this so that even though my drawing is bigger than my viewfinder, it still has the same proportions.

FURNITURE TRACINGS
Due to the hurricane, we were not able to have class but we still had homework! We were asked to trace different types of furniture in order to get used to drawings these types of objects. We traced different tables, chairs, sofas, curtains, drapery, etc. I think this exercise was good practice to do because it really did help me understand exactly how to draw these certain objects. I hope I can draw these objects this well and/ or better in the future free hand!!!
CORNER DRAWING
This drawing was done after I drew my desk in my room. This is a sketch I did of one of the corners in my room. This particular corner has a window, a closet door (which is always open), and a chair. I drew this in the same style as the furniture tracings above. Additionally, I sketched this free hand and I think it looks pretty good for practice. The main problem in my sketch are the bottom lines of the door and baseboard; they are not at the right angle. However, I think this was very good practice and I think it turned out good!!!

IAB THUMBNAIL DRAWINGS
This is the beginning of our first big project in Studio 1. This is going to be both difficult and exciting. These are my thumbnail sketches...
